Education Update presented by
Tracy Conte, Director of Special Education. Please join us for an overview and update
of NRSD’s Special Education Department and programming. Ms. Conte will include feedback from the recent program review by
the Massachusetts DESE (Department of Special Education) Following this
discussion, the Nashoba SpEd PAC will hold its annual election of
officers. Though housed at Nashoba Regional High School, the evening
will address programming issues district wide.

Basic Rights presented by Lois
Goldstein and Alissa Barton from the Federation
for Children with Special Needs. This workshop
provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities
under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts
Special Education Law and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). It is designed to help
parents learn how to be effective partners with the school, to decide the
child’s eligibility for special education, to plan, make decisions and to
monitor the educational progress of their child.

MCAS: Presented by the Federation for Children with Special Needs. The
Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) is a tool to measure
progress in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks or general curriculum. This
workshop will help parents understand how their children with disabilities can
participate in a meaningful way in MCAS. It will discuss accommodations and
alternate assessments available so that students can demonstrate what they have
learned.

Sexuality Concerns and Your Special Needs Child: Talking About Sensitive Issues presented by Sally Fogel, M.Ed., AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator.
During this workshop, we will cover the
following topics:

Development of Sexual Identity
- Common Sexual Landmarks in Children

Helping to Identify children's sexuality and
social skills education needs
- Looking at areas of comfort and discomfort in
discussing sexuality concerns, on the part of both parent and child
- Making the best use of 'teachable moments'

Addressing difficult issues
Participants’ questions and areas of interest will be addressed as best
possible.
